what's your "walk score"?
What's your "walk score"? How walkable is the place you live? Can you get to just about everything you need within minutes on foot, or is your place completely unliveable without a motor vehicle?

My "walk score" is 98.

The scores are strangely variable. Our old address scores a 75 (kind of absurb; the score should be higher), but a place two blocks away and closer to the local market scores 62. In general it's a good guide, though. No surprise that our current house scores 52 -- we knew that when we bought it.

there should be a modifiable parameter one can set for "how much do you enjoy walking" or "how fast do you walk" or something. sharon and I regularly walk from our place on the north end of fremont to capitol hill or downtown for things, but a lot of people might not have the time or energy or attention span to commit to that sort of distance.

Folks in our city have found it pretty variable (giving different scores for the same address) and inaccurate. The inaccuracies are likely due to businesses not being listed correctly (or at all) in the Google maps they're using.

It would be nice if they had a concept of "walk X for groceries, walk Y for dinner, walk Z for the hardware store", but that makes for a more complex problem and also requires a detailed explanation of the scoring.

Maybe this metric is like a BMI number: a useful measurement that can generally indicate your overall health, but not something that should be taken as your sole diagnostic tool.

That thing is so cool. I need to spend some more time with it.
